Godot 4.1 Pixel Tilemap Physics Simulator
What is this?
Sometimes side projects help focus on bigger ones! We started this because one of us watched too many videos on cellular automata and needed to learn TileMaps better in Godot 4.1. This was a perfect excuse to play around, and we found the resulting sandbox (heh) pretty relaxing to play in, so we're making it available for you!
How do I use it?
Best enjoyed in fullscreen mode, you just select elements you want to place from the list on the left by clicking the button. Rock and Wood are static, Sand and Water are physics-simulated, and Fire can be used to destroy Wood quickly.
Click and hold with an element selected to "paint" it onto the canvas
The Large button will give you a bigger "brush" to paint with
Hit M to toggle music (credits below)
Hit C to clear the current screen
Cool, but it's kinda slow!
First, thanks for thinking it's cool, we agree. Optimizing this would be a pretty big lift, and that's out of scope for what we were hoping to accomplish. Next time we need a break we might come back to optimize it as a new exercise! But for now it is what it is :)
The HTML browser version tends to slow down quickly. The desktop versions (download below for free!) are a bit more performant, but not my a whole lot.
Also because this was developed in Godot 4.1, the HTML version does not run well (if at all) on MacOS. We've provided a .dmg for y'all to use!
