Magnetic Marathon

Magnetic marathon is a gravity bending autorunner platformer. In this prototype game, the objective is to traverse treacherous terrain as quickly as possible. Your only means of control is to jump while bending gravity up and down. You'll need to make these adjustments, often in quick succession, to traverse some tight spots. This game is designed for speed runners who love to play a level over and over again until they get it just right.

This is an early prototype of a concept, and we would love your feedback on the aspects of the game that you like and don't like.

Gameplay

When you begin, only one level is available to you, Earth. As you play, you will hit checkpoints that save your progress if your player dies. You can keep track of the currencies you have collected and your cumulative time spent running a level in the upper left HUD.

On the first run-through of a level, you will hit dialogue boxes that are meant as a light story/tutorial for first time players. Once you have hit a checkpoint or the end of the level, these dialog boxes will not show again.

Completing a level resets the timer, and you can then replay the level to beat your best time without the dialogue boxes.

In order to play the moon level, you need to complete the Earth level and collect at least 12 Lithium resources.

You can reset the game completely from the Title menu by clicking the "Clear Save" button.

Default controls on the keyboard are:

ActionKey(s)

These keybindings can be manually changed in the Settings menu of the game.

Additionally, rudimentary bindings are available for controller (only tested on DualShock 4).

ActionKey(s)

Gravity Up (full)Joypad Right Shoulder (Sony R1, Xbox RB)
Gravity Down (full)Joypad Left Shoulder (Sony L1, Xbox LB)
PauseSony Options, Xbox Menu, Nintendo +

We have found gameplay easier to adjust to using a controller, but alternative keybindings may work best for some players. If you find something that works well for you, we would love to hear about it in the comments.

Known Limitations

  • The best time for a level is stored internally but not surfaced to the player.
  • There's currently no obvious indication in the level select menu how to unlock additional maps. If we continue development we will add this information to the menu.
  • Changing keybinding is limited to keyboard controls, currently controller controls cannot be re-binded.
